Betsy graduated from Kenyon College with a degree in English. After completing the Teton Science Schools' Graduate Program in 1996, Betsy went on to earn a Master's Degree in Education from the University of California , Berkeley . After teaching 4 th and 5 th grade in Moraga , California for 4 years, Betsy joined the Journeys School faculty in 2003. Betsy enjoys many outdoor activities including hiking and sailing.

Melissa Flynn

Melissa received her B.A. in Art History from the University of Wisconsin and her Post-Baccalaureate Teacher Certification from Western Governors University. She is elementary certified in both Wyoming and Utah. Prior to coming to Journeys, Melissa has several years elementary teaching experience in Teton County, Idaho. Her passion for outdoor education is reflected in her over ten years of experience as a naturalist in California and an outdoor educator in Washington and Michigan.

Bari Bucholz

Bari graduated from the Teton Science Schools' Graduate Program and received a B.A. in Elementary Education from University of Montana. She has taught 5th and 6th grade at the Swan Valley School in Idaho for the last five years in a multi-age setting. Bari has experience in technology applications at the elementary school level, project-based learning and place-based teaching.

Shannon Shuptrine

Shannon has a Masters in Education and K-8 certification from Antioch New England Graduate School. She has been working as a first grade teacher for Teton County School District most recently, but also taught art and kindergarten/first grade at Waynflete School in Portland, Maine. She has a young son named Flynn who accompanies her on skis and hikes around the valley. Shannon also enjoys journaling, watercolor painting, identifying local flora and fauna and reading.

Kalen Ritz

Kalen joins the Journeys School faculty with a B.S. in Environmental Management from Indiana University . After completing the TSS graduate program in 2001, she earned a Master's degree in Natural Science with a focus in elementary education at the University of Wyoming . Prior to teaching at Journeys School, Kalen taught kindergarten/first grade and first/second grade at Mountain Road School, a private school in New York State dedicated to character development and heartfelt education. While at Mountain Road , she also coordinated Geography and Science Initiatives and taught third and fourth grade science. Kalen enjoys spending time outdoors exploring the wonders of nature.

Erin Skonord

Erin has a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Montana and is about to complete her Masters in Elementary Education. Prior to coming to Journeys School, she was a Reading Specialist and pre-Kindergarten teacher in Jackson. Erin was also kindergarten and pre-kindergarten teacher in Texas. Throughout her career, Erin has volunteered for the Big Brothers Big Sisters Program, instructed swimming, and served as an Emergency Medical Technician.
