Upper Elementary (3-5)

The 3-5 program is thematic and place-based in nature and integrates math, literature, writing workshop, science, social studies, and word study in a three year cycle.  This allows for learning to occur in multi-age and multi-ability environments throughout the Grades 3-5 experience.  Students participate in Spanish, music, physical education, art, computer, and handwriting classes which provide opportunities to discover talents and creative potential, hone strengths, develop proficiency, and exercise leadership within the learning community.  Multi-day journeys in the fall, winter, and spring provide hands-on and experiential learning throughout our ecosystem. Our life skills program is emergent and is based on the needs and interactions of the students.  The goal of creating good community members through communication and responsibility is embedded in everything that we do.  A respectful foundation and a safe learning environment lead to success in all other areas of school.

The 3-5 program book (385 KB PDF) describes our curriculum in more detail and provides general information about the 3-5 structure.
